Bogus

Not just false or bizarre, but specifically provably false. Thus end-of the world predictions (e.g. the world will end and judgement will befall us in 1976) can retrospectively be bogus but are not prior to the claimed date.

Prat (or Pratt)

Someone who overestimates their ability or status and fails in a task because of this. From Old English prætt (trick, cunning, astute).

Pratt fall

A task which discloses a Pratt. From music hall and slapstick - the highly visible fall which indicates initially that a dignified or self important figure actually a pratt.
